Job Summary: Core to the ArchWell Health approach is to have a robust clinical care team focused on the needs of our members. Care teams are responsible for delivering excellent and compassionate primary care and coordinating the care of our members with the broader healthcare delivery system. The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a critical role in supporting the PCP day-to-day and ensuring efficiency in the care provided to patients. MAs will work closely and collaboratively with their teammates to greet and room ArchWell Health members. S/he will be expected to assist in assessing patient’s health conditions, including performing routine diagnostic testing during appointments. The MA-Float may be asked to provide coverage outside of their primary center. Duties/Responsibilities: Conduct intake with patients, measuring and recording vital signs, patient interview, and medical history; perform examinations and routine screenings, ensuring patients are informed and all questions and concerns are addressed for each procedure. Critically listen and engage with patients throughout appointment, ensuring needs and/or changing in patient conditions are reported to PCP, specialists, and/or other clinical personnel. Perform all tasks with a hyper focus on patient experience, including processing of patient phone messages, including returning calls; routing calls to other team members as appropriate; calling patients to obtain and relay pertinent information for the physician. Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures and other first aid procedures; use CPR skills, when necessary, all under physician supervision. Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and conduct accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times. Provide health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices; follows up with coached patients via weekly calls. Required Skills/Abilities: Must possess a high degree of emotional intelligence and integrity, driven and focused work ethic. Self-starter with the ability to think creatively and work effectively. Ability to work effectively with various seniorities and diverse populations including staff, providers, members, family members, insurance carriers, vendors and market leadership. Strong communicator that is customer oriented. Excellent critical reasoning, decision-making, and problem-solving skills to analyze situations, determine risks, and find solutions to prevent future issues and resolve recurring defects. Experience with claims/quality reports and analytical software packages. Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel plus a variety of other word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and presentation software. Ability to travel on occasion for company meetings. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent education (GED) required. Graduation from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program OR comparable healthcare vocational training (i.e. foreign-trained physician, paramedic, etc.) required. A minimum of 1 year work experience as a Medical Assistant. 6+months' phlebotomy experience is highly desired. BLS for Healthcare Providers required. EClinical Works or similar EMR experience. Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Measure residents' temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, weight, intake, output and food consumption and document in the official medical record. Keep residents' water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water on each shift and within easy reach of the resident. Prepare residents for meals (i.e., take to bathroom, wash hands, comb hair, raise bed, position tables, place clothing protector, take to/from dining room, etc.). Record the resident's food/fluid intake, report changes in the resident's eating habits. Assist residents in accordance to their needs ranging from minimal assistance to total dependent care on activities of daily living (ADLs). Care for residents with mental and psychosocial disorders as well as residents with history of trauma and/or post-traumatic stress disorder and who have been identified in the facility assessment. Assist in preparing the resident for exams, test, and procedures; provide support or escort residents to appointments. Assist in transporting residents to/from appointments, activity and social programs, etc., as necessary. Assist residents with bowel and bladder functions (i.e., take to bathroom, offer bed pan/urinal, protable commode, etc.). Assist non-diabetic residents with nail care including clipping, trimming, cleaning the fingers, fingernails, and toenails. Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc. Change bed linens in residents' rooms. Check each resident routinely to ensure that his/her personal care needs are being met in accordance with his/her wishes. Collect specimens as instructed (i.e., urine, sputum, stools, etc.). Maintain intake and output records as instructed. Observe and report the presence of pressure areas and skin breakdowns to prevent pressure injuries. Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed in accordance with the individualized plan of care. Provide non-pharmacological interventions for pain in accordance with the plan of care. Provide daily range of motion (ROM) exercises; record data as instructed. Assist nurses with admission transfer and discharge functions. Greet residents and escort them to their room; provide new resident orientation to the unit/facility. Keep the call light within easy reach of the residents. Follow established infection prevention and control procedures. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Must be a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in accordance with laws of the state. Experience in Long Term Care industry, preferred. CPR certification, preferred. Perform routine developmental screenings. Diagnose and treat common childhood illnesses according to practice protocols. Use prescriptive authority, in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations to treat illness, improve health status and provide preventative care. Provide health education, anticipatory guidance regarding common child health concerns, and utilize community resource opportunities for the child and/or family. Record and maintain an accurate, cumulative health record for each child. Participate in IEP team and 504 meetings as appropriate. Collaborate with other health care providers in the delivery of health care. Educate children and families toward participation in self-care. Monitor and interpret public health and communicable disease issues, which impact the delivery of health care for children. Provide leadership and guidance to all health aides. Create awareness of health services in the community and coordinate services with health related agencies. Participate in quality assurance review, including systematic review of records and treatment plans on a periodic basis. Perform basic first aid procedures and screen ill or injured children according to established procedures; utilize a variety of health products and supplies in caring for injuries and health needs. Administer medications to students who have a completed Medical Authorization form on file. Schedule students for and conduct screenings (vision, hearing, etc.); schedule follow-up appointments if further testing is required. Prepare, maintain, and enter health-related information on forms and in student management system. Files and records may include items such as student health records, emergency medical records, accident reports, and health and disability reports. Prepare correspondence, forms, notices, and referrals. Maintain the health office in a clean, orderly and safe condition; assist in maintaining inventory and order first aid supplies (from district nurse) as necessary.
