Unit Overview
Our Orthopedic Trauma unit is a 20 bed, challenging, fast-paced unit, with 2 rooms semi[1]private, the rest single patient rooms. As a level one trauma center, patients come from all around central Florida with diagnoses such as simple and complex fractures, crush injuries, traumatic amputations, gunshot wounds, various hand injuries, and motor vehicle accidents resulting in multi-trauma injuries. Care pair team ratio is 6 to 1.
Our Orthopedics unit is a 30 bed, challenging, fast-paced unit, all private rooms. As a Joint Commission accredited Center of Excellence for Hips and Knee patients, we provide the best care for patients receiving a total knee/hip arthroplasty through safe, evidence based, quality healthcare services in a caring atmosphere. As a part of level one trauma center, we also receive orthopedic trauma patients. Care pair team ratio is 6 to 1.
ORIENTATION
All new hires go through weeklong corporate orientation, which is 7:30a-4:30p. Nurses will have to do an additional week at New Hire Simulation Orientation Program (site requirement) and all will go through Ortho Essentials (unit requirement). We utilize the married state preceptorship model. Aim is to orient on both units due to staff rotating through both sides based on daily requirements. Graduate Nurses 10 weeks Experienced Nurses 6 weeks Nursing Assistant I & Student Nurse Interns 3 weeks Nursing Assistant II 2 weeks *Orientation is subject to change based on progress, biweekly check-ins and individualization of experience*
Scheduling Requirements 50% of weekends are required based on your status (variable full time, part time, pool) in a 6 week scheduling period. Holidays mandate is 1 major and 1 minor holiday. School schedule will be prioritized once it’s provided to leadership.
Position Summary
Administers patient care in an area in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where an acute care patient receives active treatment for an injury, episode of illness, a medical condition, or post intervention with assessment.

Qualifications
Education/Training
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
- Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and unit/department.
Licensure/Certification
- Maintains current State of Florida RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license.
- Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
- ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas. NRP required for Neonatal Intensive care Unit (NICU).
