The Adult ECMO Program is a member of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO). We are designated as a Center of Excellence, which demonstrates excellence in providing ECLS therapy. Our Methodist Hospital location is the largest ECMO center in the state of Indiana and we are10th in the U.S. for ECMO patient volume with continued outcomes better than the national averages for respiratory and cardiac support.
IU Health has an outstanding opportunity available at our Methodist Hospital location for a Registered Nurse to advance their career as a Clinical Nurse- ECMO.
In this department, patients are placed on Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) for acute, reversible cardiac and/or pulmonary failure. These patients are managed in the Cardiovascular or Cardiac Medical Critical Care unit.
This position will be on the ECMO Clinician team and will be PRN, rotating.
The Clinical Nurse- ECMO is required to maintain continuing education and attend regular meetings within the program. This clinician is responsible for managing the ECMO circuit(s), troubleshooting and collaborating with the bedside nurses, and communication with the multidisciplinary team. This Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of Indiana University Health, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care along the care continuum, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. the registered professional nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
Must be adaptable in a fast paced, rapidly changing critical care environment and have scheduling flexibility, along with two years of critical care experience preferred.

- Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
- Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
- Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
