Position Summary:
The RN – Certified Oncology Infusion provides holistic patient care to high risk, complex acutely and chronically ill oncology and hematology patients in the outpatient setting.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Utilize the nursing process, provide holistic patient-centered care across the cancer care continuum, employ multiple treatment modalities, to include assessment, planning care coordination with the interdisciplinary oncology team, and evaluation.
- Appy evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, symptom management tools, standards and protocols in patient evaluation and care.
- Initiate and maintain venous access devices, adhering to evidence based intravenous device guidelines.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of oncologic treatment modalities. Administer chemotherapy and blood products, as well as other medications as prescribed while adhering to current Chemotherapy Administration Safety Standards.
- Learn to identify and manage common oncologic emergencies according to evidence-based practice guidelines.
- Provide point-of-care testing as prescribed by provider(s).
- Assist provider(s) with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments as needed.
- Thoroughly and accurately document all patient care activities, assessment, interventions, and patient/family communication.
- Identify patient access barriers and potential solutions to provide quality care to the patient with cancer and identify resources available to people with cancer and their caregivers.
- Adhere to HIPPA and other confidentiality laws and regulations; adhere to infection control and safety guidelines.
- Attend ongoing educational programs as required to maintain licensure and certifications, and as assigned by the Director of Nursing or Clinical Nurse Manager.
- Promptly review and respond to emails and system communication.
- Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and process improvement.
- Maintain all required licensures and certifications (RN, BLS) etc.
- Obtain and maintain ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy card.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Formal education (e.g. High School Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, graduate of an accredited program)
|
Associate of Science in Nursing (or equivalent) from an accredited institution required.
|
Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution preferred.
|
Licensure/certification
Include due date if licensure/certification is required after hire.
|
Registered Nurse with current NH or compact state license required.
Current BLS required.
Must maintain or obtain ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy card within twenty-six (26) months of employment.
If new to infusion, must maintain or obtain ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy. Recertification as required to meet organizational standards
Obtain ONCCC Oncology Certification (OCN) within two (2) years of hire.

OCN upon hire or current chemotherapy/immunotherapy certificate preferred.

Experience
Number of years and type of directly related work experience (e.g. 2-4 years of accounting experience)
|
A minimum of one-two years of med/surg, critical care and/or hematology/oncology experience (ambulatory/inpatient) required.

Prior Oncology experience (inpatient or outpatient) preferred.
