We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Surgical Technologist to join our operative care team. Also known as “scrub techs,” Surgical Technologists play an essential role in ensuring patient safety and supporting surgeons and registered nurses throughout every phase of a procedure. This is an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced surgical environment while making a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and caregivers each day.
A caregiver in this position works FT, from 7:00am—3:30pm. No weekends or holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
- Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.
- Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
- Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
- Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”
- Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program, accredited through Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)
- OR Completion of military surgical technology program will meet the educational requirements of an accredited Surgical Technology Program
- Certification of either CST or TS-C required for candidates who have not completed an accredited Surgical Technology program:
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
- Certified Tech in Surgery, (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- One year of Surg Tech experience
- Hospital experience
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds periodically.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.
- Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
