The Infection Surveillance Specialist provides clinical and technical expertise and coordinates system level infection surveillance activities as directed by System Infection Prevention leadership for INTEGRIS Health as indicated based on risk assessment, regulatory/mandatory reporting and safety improvement efforts and initiatives. This includes monitoring trends and issues in healthcare, fostering systematic analysis of issues, and engaging in systematic inquiry ranging from problem solving to research.This role is essential to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, involving compliance with regulatory standards, risk assessments, staff training, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce harm and enhance safety.This position will report directly to the system Manager of Infection Prevention with direct collaborative relationships with facility infection prevention, quality reporting and state reporting agencies.

Responsibilities
The system Infection Surveillance Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Data-Driven Surveillance
- Oversee centralized surveillance for healthcare ‑ associated infections (HAIs), extracting and validating EMR data using standard definitions to ensure accurate, actionable reporting.
- Analyze infection trends—by risk index, device-specific rates, pathogen types, and antimicrobial resistance—to inform targeted interventions.
- Build and refine reporting frameworks for mandatory systems like NHSN and Oklahoma State Department of Health.
- Initiate epidemiologic reviews of infection clusters or unusual cases, acting swiftly to identify root causes and recommend mitigations.
- Co-develop surveillance methods and dashboards that enable early detection and communication of outbreaks.
- Serve as a liaison with state and local public health entities, reporting legally required conditions and coordinating responses to inquiries.
- Support system-wide accreditation and regulatory programs (e.g., CMS validation), including documentation, case validation, and readiness reviews.
- Mentor caregivers on surveillance definitions and protocols, while staying informed through ongoing education, literature engagement, and professional networks.
- Collaborates with infection preventionists, physicians, nurses, leadership and others (as needed) in the surveillance and common causal analysis process.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum – Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum – Two (2) years healthcare setting experience, acute care setting preferred.
- Preferred - Experience in patient safety, risk management, infection prevention, and/or developing and implementing clinical quality and/or process improvement initiatives.
- Preferred - One (1) years professional development, consultation or supervision/leadership experience.
- Minimum – Active and current clinical licensure (RN).
- Preferred – Certification, knowledge, or expertise with performance improvement/CQI methodologies (e.g., Continuous Improvement, Lean Six Sigma).
- Preferred – Current knowledge of accreditation and regulatory requirements for acute care services.
- This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (Verbal/Written).
