The Registered Nurse in our Adolescent Inpatient Psych department at Riley Children's Health delivers care to children and adolescents with complex behavioral and emotional needs. This individual will also be cross trained to work in the Behavioral Health Assessment Center (Psych Holding Unit) at Riley Children's Hospital. Registered Nurses in this area work within an interdisciplinary team and are involved in the treatment planning and implementation of therapeutic interventions specific to each patient’s goals. As a Registered Nurse in Adolescent Psych compassion, leading nursing enrichment activities, establishing therapeutic boundaries, and being comfortable deescalating situations are all necessary components of patient care. The Registered Nurse will support staffing and patient care in both the Inpatient psych and the Psych Holding units. Shift: Night Shift
Nursing skills gained in Adolescent Psych department:
- Verbal de-escalation
- Nurses will be trained in both an emergency crisis unit as well as an inpatient psychiatric unit
Unit Successes/Designations:
- The inpatient unit has been opened for 4 years!
- New Psych holding unit in the Emergency Department opened in February 2025!
- Ranked in the top 50 by US News and World Report for Pediatric & Adolescent Behavioral Health 2025-2026.

- Behavioral health is an inclusive, diverse team of Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers, Patient Care Technicians, and Mental Health Technicians.

Qualifications:
- Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
- Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
- Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
