Responsibilities

The population of Trauma/Surgical ICU patients ranges from single to multi-system injuries, acute exacerbation of chronic health problems, and acute illness. Because of this, you should be someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to caring for a variety of patients. Our medical team is highly trained and credentialed in a multitude of procedures. Likewise, our nurses are highly competent and skilled to manage any Trauma/Surgical patient.

As a nurse in this unit, you should have the desire to be a patient and family advocate, have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and have the desire to work closely with other disciplines.

Qualifications

Education• Graduate of approved nursing program required• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred Experience• Consistent demonstration of Novice / Advance Beginner clinical nursing practice proficiency required Licenses and Certifications• RN - Current State of California Registered Nurse license required• BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required Additional Certification Requirements: Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire or transfer into job.

Performs confidential HIV counseling. Works with community agencies to promote wellness. Performs activities such as dipstick urine tests, drawing of blood, and blood pressure screening, and giving injections. Documents all activities in patients' charts. Prepares a variety of reports. May participate in Targeted Case Management (TCM) and Medi-Cal Administrative Activities (MAA) services. Essential Qualifications Knowledge: Principles, methods, and procedures of general nursing and public health nursing. Causes, means of transmission, and methods of controlling communicable diseases. Training and Experience Any combination of training which would likely provide the required knowledge and experience is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Education Graduation from an accredited nursing program; AND Experience Two (2) years of general nursing experience.
