Job Summary
Summary
The primary purpose of your job is to provide nursing services in the Nursing Acute in accordance with the current applicable Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations and established policies and procedures as may be directed by the CEO, Director of Physician Services, CNE and practice providers.
Martha's Vineyard Hospital (MVH) is pleased to offer a New Grad RN Transition Program designed to offer support and training to RN's who do not have Acute Care RN experience. Start your profession in Acute Care nursing with MVH now and advance your career with additional training opportunities for the Operating Room, Emergency Department, Critical Care, Infusion, Dialysis, and Labor and Delivery.
Acute care nursing support provided to you through a team of dedicated professionals: Nurse Practice Specialist, RN Preceptor, and Nurse Manager
New Graduate RN's will work one-on-one with a preceptor following a Tiered Skills Acquisition Model for orientation. This model is designed to increase nursing intervention skills from simple to complex during the orientation period while having a full patient assignment with a preceptor. The New Graduate nurse will gradually assume increased responsibilities as interventions and skills are mastered while advancing through the tiered system.
14 Week Program:
Periodic Program starts: Multiple times throughout the year
Candidates will be hired as a temporary employee of Martha's Vineyard Hospital with competitive pay, plus pay differentials for evening, nights, and weekend commitments.
Weeks 1-14: Day/Night rotation, patient observation, Preceptorship on Nursing unit floors plus classroom training
Qualifications - External
• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
• Current BLS
Unit requirements: Acute care- MED/SURG:
Demonstrates ability to care for patients in various age group, pediatrics to geriatrics.
Demonstrates ability to care for surgical patients.
Demonstrates ability to care for medical patients.
Demonstrates ability to provide safe environment for short-term psychiatric patients.
Demonstrates a working knowledge and safe use of medications specific to the acute care patient population.
Personal growth and development:
Identifies own learning needs and seeks opportunities for self growth, using and sharing skills gained through continuing education classes.
Has completed annual nursing competencies.
Has attended annual mandatory day.
Age specific competency:
Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior, motor skills and physiological norms of patients, recognizing a patient’s psychological development and modifies approaches for patients.
Interview and communication techniques are age appropriate.
