Job Responsibilities

As a Geriatric Nursing Assistant, you’ll be responsible for a range of direct patient care activities in post-acute facilities to ensure the health, comfort, and safety of residents. Your shift activities can include:

  • Providing companionship to residents and affirming their dignity through attentive care.
  • Assisting residents with daily living activities such as eating, bathing, dressing, and transportation.
  • Providing comfort care to residents and responding to their requests.
  • Checking residents’ vital signs and observing their overall condition.
  • Ensuring a clean and sanitary living environment.
  • Working to improve resident mobility through range of motion exercises.
  • Documenting care provided and reporting observations and changes in resident status to your shift supervisor.
  • Aiding physicians and nursing staff members with procedures as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • An applicable Certified Nursing Assistant (GNA) state certification
  • Experience as a Geriatric Nursing Assistant is preferred
  • Experience working in post-acute or long-term care facilities is a plus
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and relevant nursing care
  • Effective communication skills
