South Carolina Health Care Association (SCHCA) Summer Splash 2022

Join us from August 8th-10th at the South Carolina Health Care Association (SCHCA) Summer Splash 2022. This is a 3 day event at the Wild Dunes Resort at Isle of the Palms, SC. 

This event features speakers, educational/professional sessions, and networking opportunities. Some of the featured sessions include:

“The Common Sense Approach to Abuse and Neglect” by Cat Selman. In this session, Cat will discuss the regulatory side of abuse and neglect, as well as “common-sense” strategies and training techniques to address this specific area.

• “Chronic Wound Management” by Anita Meador with Medline. This session will focus on identifying hard to heal wounds, challenges and cost-effective measures.
• “Medicaid Eligibility & Reimbursement Updates: Developing Key Financial Relationships” by Becky Hewitt. Hall Booth Smith’s Long-Term Care team, including Medicaid & Reimbursement Specialist Becky Hewitt, will provide insight into the ever-changing financial world of Long-term Care.
• “Health Literacy, the core of Value Based Purchasing” by Joel VanEaton with Broad River Rehab. In this presentation, participants will grow in their understanding of the principals in guiding the transformation of the VBP program and how health literacy is at the core of each of the measures that are being considered for expansion of this program.
• “DHEC Round-Up” by Darryl “Todd” McAlhany, Director Division of Fire and Life Safety and DHEC Staff. In the session, attendees will learn the most frequently cited fire and life safety citations, state and federal cations in skilled nursing centers and assisted living facilities in South Carolina. There will also be a Q&A to wrap up the session.
• “Most Wanted: What Every Provider and Facility Needs To Know about HIPAA.” by Alice Harris and Chandler Martin with Nexsen Pruet, LLC. This session will involve a discussion of practical and legal issues providers and facilities should consider related to HIPAA Privacy and Security. The presentation will be in a FAQ format, dealing with the most frequently encountered questions and issues in the HIPAA and privacy arena, and “lessons learned” from recent relevant enforcement actions.

The South Carolina Health Care Association (SCHCA) is an advocacy group for health care facilities and organizations that provide long-term nursing care throughout the state.

Their mission is to empower our members to help improve their patients’ lives by delivering healing and compassionate care to the state’s most vulnerable population – the elderly, frail and disabled. We do this in a number of ways:

• Helping long-term care facilities throughout the state maintain the high standards the public expects
• Working with state government and business leaders to champion the needs of the long-term care community, including the people served by these organizations
• Educating the general public of the services long-term care companies provide
• Providing members with resources and educational opportunities to enhance their ability to provide quality care
• Seeking solutions to issues facing the long-term care industry

The SCHCA was organized in 1955 to represent the state’s nursing homes. Today, their members are composed of facilities providing long-term nursing care throughout the state, representing over 18,000 beds. They are committed to assisting our member facilities in improving the quality of life of their residents and patients.
