Steps for Georgia Board of Nursing License Renewal
The information below applies to you if you’re already licensed to work as a nurse in Georgia. If you hold a multi-state license, it will be automatically renewed once you complete the process for your single state license. If your primary residence is out of state, you must apply for licensure by examination or endorsement.
Step 1: Determine Your Renewal Timeline
In Georgia, RN and LPN nursing licenses must be renewed every two years. The application is online, and the due date is January 31 of the year your license expires. The late renewal period is from February 1–28 of that same year.
CNAs must also renew their certifications every two years. This will enable them to stay current on Georgia’s Certified Nurse Aide Registry.
Step 2: Complete Continuing Education Requirements
To complete the Georgia board of nursing license renewal process, registered nurses must meet the state’s continuing education requirements outlined in the RN Continuing Competency Packet. There are five options:
- Complete 30 board-approved continuing education hours.
- Maintenance of certification or recertification by a board-approved institution.
- Complete a board-approved academic program in nursing or a related field.
- Verification of competency by a board-approved healthcare facility or entity.
- Completion of a board-approved reentry program or graduation from an authorized nursing education program.
LPNs must complete 20 hours of continuing education or an accredited nursing academic program as described in the LPN Continuing Competency Education Packet.
Thankfully, you have plenty of options for how to meet your continuing education requirements — one of which is IntelyEdu. We offer plenty of courses, which are accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Step 3: Apply for Renewal
If you’re an RN or LPN due for your nursing license renewal, visit the Georgia Board of Nursing website, where you can access the Georgia nursing license renewal application when you scroll down to the “Renewals” tab. This is where you’ll manage and submit your application. You can also check your application status and verify your license under the “Licensing” tab at the top of the home page.
If you renew your nursing license by January 31, the application fee is $65. For those who wait until the late renewal period, the fee rises to $75. For information on any other fee-related questions, check out the Georgia Board of Nursing fee schedule for clarification.
CNAs can renew their licenses by completing the online renewal form. Once you’ve completed that process, you can verify your license online as well.
Once your license is renewed, you have plenty of options. You can search for RN, LPN, and CNA jobs in Georgia.
