Meet Noah Hendler

Noah Hendler, APRN, FNP-C, MSN, MPS is a Nurse Practitioner, strategist, and consultant with a track record of accelerating healthcare innovations, bridging operations and development, and bringing products, solutions, and companies from concept to market.

Noah helped pioneer value-based episodic care models initiating some of the nation’s first bundled payment programs. As a serial innovator and entrepreneur, with hybrid clinical-technical and business skills, he is dedicated to redefining health care. Noah’s passion for improving care delivery led to co-founding the Society of Nurse Innovators Entrepreneurs and Leaders (SONSIEL) and being an implementing partner of the first national Nurse Innovation Fellowship, funded by Johnson & Johnson.

Noah found his place at the bedside and beyond after earning a Comparative Religion degree from Duke University and a Master’s degree from NYU in Interactive Telecommunications. The death of a good friend motivated Noah to become a nurse. He has worked on the frontlines in busy urban trauma centers, as well as throughout post-acute settings. He has led clinical informatics and helped deliver new levels of transparency for both medication reconciliation and adherence.

Noah enjoys caring for people of all ages and is licensed in Family Practice. He has sought to maintain a balance working clinically in healthcare while also consulting on it. In his current clinical practice, Noah provides hospice care.

Q&A

IntelyCare: What does Nursing Professionals Week mean to you?

Noah: “Nurses represent the largest segment of the healthcare workforce. Every week nursing professionals make healthcare happen. Nursing Professionals Week is a time for us to take a collective pause to recognize and reflect on our profound role, opportunity for impact, responsibility, and commitment to engendering health in all forms.”

IntelyCare: What does education mean to you?

Noah: “For me, education is fundamentally about learning how to learn. This crucial skill allows for being adaptable, versatile, and valuable across multiple domains.”

IntelyCare: What do you think everyone should understand about what it means to be a nurse?

Noah: “My personal definition of being nurse is expansive. I nurse ideas to life, and nurse people towards health. Being a nurse requires being a giver in a world filled with takers. At some point we all need someone to care for us. None of us are entirely independent or invulnerable. Yet, despite our interdependence and inherent vulnerability, nursing and caregiving are often undervalued. Being a nurse means recognizing the value and opportunity of caring for and about others just as we do for ourselves.”

IntelyCare: What do you think every nurse should understand about the importance of self-care?

Noah: “Nursing is not self-sacrificing. It is self-affirming. Being grounded and healthy for yourself is required to be fully present for the benefit of others. When asked how he loves himself, the late Buddhist teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, said simply, ‘The first act of love is just to breathe in and go home to my body. Hello, body! I am home, I will take care of you.’ Recognizing the present moment metaphorically and taking a breath to be kind to ourselves – first and foremost – gives us the literal breathing room we need to capably care for others.”

IntelyCare: What will your Intely@Sea course cover?

Noah: “My course will be a crash course in rapid innovation. Think of it like speed dating, but for ideas. I’ve helped lots of nurses (and others in healthcare) move from concept to creation. I believe empathetic nurses are natural innovators. After all, when considering a problem and developing an impactful solution, empathizing is the first step of the deign thinking process. Nurses should come to the course with problems they think are worth solving and an openness to envisioning multiple solutions.”
