This information sheet answers questions commonly asked by our IntelyPros (IPs) about COVID-19.

The IntelyCare team is here to ensure you receive all appropriate guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community. We will continue to update this page as relevant information is made available.

What is IntelyCare doing to train IPs about COVID-19 best practices?

IntelyCare has created a COVID-19 in-app training that all our IntelyPros have access to  take before picking up shifts. This training  provides IntelyPros with an overview of the virus transmission and symptoms, along with what they need to do to minimize exposure risk and prevent the spread of the virus. Upon completion, IntelyPros will receive a certificate that will be visible to all of our partnering facilities. This training is now also free to the public.

Am I considered an essential worker?

Yes. All IntelyPros are considered essential workers.  Please download and print out this Critical Care Worker Letter when traveling to and from your shifts. It is proof that you are an essential worker from our CEO, David Coppins. We recommend that you have it in your possession in the event that you are asked to prove your essential status to a government official. You may also need to show your shift start time on your app to prove that you are traveling to or from your shift.

How is IntelyCare monitoring outbreaks at facilities?

Facilities are required to report their COVID-19 status to IntelyCare. Facilities that have confirmed case(s) will be clearly flagged in your app so that you can make an informed decision when picking up a shift.

  • Facilities in green have had no reported case(s).
  • Facilities in yellow have reported case(s) at the facility.

The Facility Exposure Settings are based on information provided to IntelyCare by each Facility and are a guide for you to evaluate each shift. These exposure settings are accurate as of the date of last report by the Facility but may change prior to shift start. IntelyCare makes every attempt to update the settings as reports are received but IntelyCare is not liable for misreported or missing information.

What is IntelyCare doing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19?

IntelyCare has also created the COVID-19 Training Course for nursing professionals working in post-acute, rehab, and long-term care centers across the United States. IntelyCare is offering this completely free course in an effort to help the community tackle this virus head-on. IntelyCare will also be listing a transparent view of facilities with current COVID-19 patients. At this initial phase of the outbreak, we are not requiring that IntelyPros take an assignment with a known COVID-19 positive patient, as we do not want to encourage the potential (although minimal with the appropriate PPE) spread of infection to other healthcare facilities by means of an IntelyCare Nursing professional.

What should IntelyPros expect when they show up for a shift?

Facilities will have IntelyPros fill out their own facility-specific symptom questionnaire at the start of every single shift. IntelyPros will also likely need to be temperature screened to ensure that they are not running a fever. If IntelyPros are showing signs of illness when they arrive at their shift, they will be sent home, without cancellation pay.

What will the facility make IntelyPros fill out when they show up for a shift?

Most facilities will have IntelyPros fill out their own symptom questionnaire (SCREENING CHECKLIST) at the start of every single shift. The current “SCREENING CHECKLIST” (as of 03-15) that appears to be the industry standard can be found at https://www.ahcancal.org/Survey-Regulatory-Legal/Emergency-Preparedness/Pages/default.aspx

What if I don’t feel comfortable working with a COVID-19 patient and want to refuse the assignment?

The COVID-19 pandemic is growing which means healthcare professionals will eventually need to care for a COVID-19 positive patient. We know how difficult this can be, but we need to prepare ourselves for this new reality. The most important part of preparation is ensuring our safety by wearing complete Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

If you decide to refuse an assignment due to abnormally dangerous conditions that pose an imminent risk to your safety and health, you should remain at the client facility and offer to perform other work that does not pose an imminent risk (e.g. an assignment for which you are provided proper Personal Protective Equipment).

A decision to leave a facility upon arrival without following this protocol could result in disciplinary action.

What happens when IntelyPros show up sick to work and are sent away? Will they still get their three hour sent home pay?

All IntelyPros are encouraged not to show up to work if you have a fever, cough, sore throat, new shortness of breath. If you do not pass the screening test at the facility and are sent home, then you will not be paid for the 3-hour sent-home pay.

How does IntelyCare know if a facility has had a COVID-19 exposure?

On a 24-hour basis, IntelyCare is requiring facilities to notify us of their COVID19 status. In addition, IntelyCare receives individual reports from facilities and IntelyPros if they believe a facility has had a COVID-19 case. When IntelyCare receives word that a facility has had a COVID-19 case, our team will follow up with the facility to validate that information so that we can proactively track down direct exposure.

The Facility Exposure Settings are based on information provided to IntelyCare by each Facility and are a guide for you to evaluate each shift. These exposure settings are accurate as of the date of last report by the Facility but may change prior to shift start. IntelyCare makes every attempt to update the settings as reports are received but IntelyCare is not liable for mis-reported or missing information.

How will IntelyPros be able to identify which facilities have had confirmed COVID-19 case(s)? Will it be visible in the app?

Yes. Facilities that have confirmed case(s) of COVID-19 will be clearly flagged in the IntelyCare app with settings of Low, Medium, High, and No Reported Exposure:

  • No Reported Exposure (green): No reported case(s) at the facility within the last 14 days
  • Current Cases Reported (orange): Current reported case(s) at the facility

What happens when an IntelyPro works at a facility with a COVID-19 exposure? Will IntelyCare notify the IntelyPro?

If IntelyCare learns of a facility with a COVID-19 exposure, we will contact the facility to isolate whether or not an IntelyPro has had direct contact with a patient with COVID-19.

  • We will first notify the IntelyPro that they have worked at an exposed facility
  • If we find out that the IntelyPro has had known direct contact with COVID-19, they will be put on hold for 14 days from time of direct contact and not be allowed to pick-up shifts at other facilities
  • IntelyPros will be allowed to return to work at a facility after they have been on hold for 14 days, and only if they can also pass the symptom questionnaire.
  • IntelyPros who have had known direct exposure and who pass the symptoms questionnaire can still work at the facility where they were exposed but only if the facility approves
  • If we are unable to substantiate direct contact via the facility, we will forward the information of the Nursing Department Management at the facility to the IntelyPro so that they can do their own discovery

What agency/agencies are you working with in order to coordinate a response to an outbreak at a facility? Are we disclosing IntelyPro information to these agencies?

We will cooperate with all requests from local Departments of Health, including our records of nursing professionals’ past and future schedules, as it relates to a potential outbreak of COVID-19.

If an IntelyPro has been placed on hold, when can they go back to work?

There are three classifications of being placed on ‘hold’.

Situation 1: An individual who has a respiratory illness that is not associated with a confirmed, or suspected, COVID-19 patient. For example, failing a symptom questionnaire due to current sick symptoms at a facility or from the IntelyCare App. In this situation, we will be placing accounts on a temporary 72 hour hold, and having a follow-up communication to confirm that your illness has passed. AMDA guidelines currently (as of 03-15) recommend, for Non-confirmed / suspected COVID-19 cases, that there must be a 24 hr period of Non-Fever (without the utilization of fever-reducing medicine), and no signs or symptoms of cough, new shortness of breath, or sore throat (which typically take 4-5 days to pass). Out of precaution, IntelyCare will be requiring attestation to not having a fever for at least 48 hrs and not having any other current respiratory symptoms in order to return to work. This is a preliminary screening, as you’ll still be required to meet all in-person screening of our partner facilities prior to entering their facility.

Situation 2: You’ve had direct contact with a COVID-19 patient.
As per the current screening questionnaire by our partnering healthcare facilities, this would prevent you from working at any ‘additional’ facilities if you were wearing the correct PPE while working with this patient, and if there was a period of time that you weren’t wearing appropriate (Droplet Precaution) PPE, you will be required to be restricted from work in any healthcare setting until 14 days after your last exposure.

If you develop any fever (measured temperature >100.0F or subjective fever) OR respiratory symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (e.g., cough, shortness of breath, sore throat)* you should immediately self-isolate (separate yourself from others) and notify their local or state public health authority and your healthcare provider promptly so that they can coordinate consultation and further evaluation.

Situation 3: You are confirmed COVID-19 Positive.
In this situation, you’ll have to get approval from your local Department of Health prior to returning to work at a Skilled Nursing Facility, as they will need to work with your healthcare provider to deem the ‘illness’ as no longer infectious/ contagious.

Will IntelyCare test IntelyPros who have been exposed? How do I get tested and who is paying for this?

As of 04-01-20, testing for COVID-19 is dependent on both symptoms and exposure levels. Increased test availability is changing on a daily basis. However, as of now, the decision of who is getting tested (or not tested) is made by your local Department of Public Health, as employers and healthcare providers do not have direct access to tests.

What should IntelyPros do if they have worked at a healthcare facility that has a COVID-19 case but haven’t yet been notified of their risk?

IntelyCare is actively reaching out to our partnering facilities to find out who is at potential risk for exposure from direct patient care with suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases.

However, you do have the right to reach out on behalf of your own health and we would encourage you to share any restrictions or ‘risk classifications’ that a Director of Nursing or clinical manager/supervisor, at a facility informs you that you should be abiding by.

Reach out to the facility and ask to speak with a Nursing supervisor and let them know your Name and that you are an Agency Nursing professional looking to find out your ‘risk exposure’ level in regards to the recently confirmed COVID-19 case, particularly, as if you had any assignments that involved directly working with any confirmed COVID-19 patients so you can take precautions for your personal safety.

For all exposures, even without direct contact and regardless of the classification, please start to perform regular temperature checks:

Do health checks every morning and every night.

  • Take your temperature and other family members that you are in close contact with.
  • In addition to fever, be alert for any other symptoms of COVID-19, including cough, sore throat or difficulty breathing.
  • Write your temperature and any symptoms in a logbook to keep track of your record.

If you have a fever (fever is 100.4°F/38°C or higher), cough, or trouble breathing:

  • Do not go out in public.
  • Call the phone number for your health department. Remind them that you are self-monitoring. Check available hours when contacting your local health department. (DPH Contact Numbers)
  • If you can’t reach your health department, seek medical advice – call ahead before you go to a doctor’s office or emergency room. Tell them about your recent ‘potential’ exposure at the healthcare facility
  • Avoid contact with others

If I need to go into quarantine due to being exposed to COVID-19 at a facility I worked at for IntelyCare, will I be paid for all shifts I had to cancel due to quarantine?

If you are quarantined or unable to work due to exposure to COVID-19, you may be eligible for unemployment benefits. Please check with your local government agencies related to unemployment.
